TPU CF is a technical-grade thermoplastic polyurethane-based filament reinforced with carbon fibers, developed for applications requiring controlled flexibility, mechanical strength, and good stability in demanding environments.
Prior to printing, material drying at 80 °C is recommended. To achieve consistent results, especially for functional parts, it is crucial to print with dry filament and store it protected from moisture.
The recommended printing temperature ranges from 210 to 230 °C. A heated chamber is not necessary and can be left off. The use of a hardened steel nozzle is advised, as the carbon fiber content makes the material abrasive for standard brass nozzles.
TPU CF: Flexible, Technical, Resistant
TPU CF combines the elastic nature of TPU with the increased rigidity and dimensional stability provided by the carbon fiber reinforcement. The result is a material suitable for 3D printing technical, resistant, and slightly flexible components, designed to operate under more severe conditions than traditional TPU.
The material’s hardness is high for a TPU: 91 Shore A and 70 Shore D. This makes it more rigid and less rubbery, while still maintaining good shock and vibration absorption capabilities. The notched Charpy impact strength is 45 kJ/m², while the elongation at break is 15%. The tensile strength at break is 60 MPa.
It is a highly interesting choice for the automotive and motorsport sectors, where it can be used for brackets, mounts, protective parts, anti-vibration components, cable guides, spacers, conveyors, parts subject to dynamic stress, and small functional elements for use near oils, fuels, vapors, and hydrocarbons.
The material offers excellent resistance in environments containing hydrocarbons, technical vapors, oils, and contaminants typical of workshops, production departments, vehicles, motorcycles, karts, prototypes, and industrial equipment. It is also suitable for components that must withstand vibrations, repeated impacts, light abrasion, and non-ideal operating conditions.
Recommended Applications
TPU CF is suitable for:
- Functional components for automotive and motorsport
- Technical mounts and brackets
- Impact protection parts
- Anti-vibration elements
- Cable glands, bushings, spacers, and inserts
- Parts for tools, equipment, and jigs
- Components for technical prototypes
- Parts exposed to oils, vapors, fuels, and hydrocarbons
- Applications where a standard TPU is too soft
- Parts requiring mechanical strength, flexibility, and stability
Thanks to the carbon fiber, the material maintains a clean, technical finish with a matte, professional appearance. It is an excellent solution for those seeking a flexible filament that is more rigid, stable, and suitable for real-world components, not just aesthetic ones.
